Poetry Legacy
Superb is her poetic contribution,
Unique in its design and execution.
She hopes the work is widely loved and lasting—
With love beginning prior to her passing.

Restricted Lane
He sees her every several days,
_They talk a bit each time.
As soon as she walks in he’ll gaze,
_For he finds her sublime.
He does not feel he’s in her league,
_Not even near the border,
So though he’s filled with high intrigue—
_He merely takes her order.

Stifle the Admiration
Some compliments can aggravate,
Like on my high school football squad,
When kids gave to a shy teammate,
The glowing nickname of “Tripod!”

Russel Winick recently started writing poetry after ending a long legal career. He resides in Naperville, Illinois.
Brilliant poetry with shots of humour! Just very enjoyable!
Thank you Scharlie. A comment could not be more gratifying!
Dear Russel,
I enjoyed these brief poems that each told a story in classic poetic forms. I especially loved Restricted Lane. I didn’t see the ending coming but it fell into place so quickly and made me smile.
Gigi
I’m delighted to hear that Gigi, especially coming from someone with your talent!
“Restricted Lane” is a warm and tender expression of truth about happiness. Among the many little delights we can have, love is something of a higher order. But for love to make one happy, it doesn’t necessarily have to be returned. You put that thought in a delightful picture, Russel. As for “Poetry Legacy” (and love of another kind), what more could a poetess want?
Margaret – your genius for detecting the inspiration behind my poetry remains unique!
These all take us back to Sally Cook’s trenchant question: What’s a wit worth?
Russel, I have long admired your poetry and these are no exceptions. They are both sensitive and compelling with grand humor from out of the blue to end it.
Thank you Roy. Your compliments are deeply appreciated, always.
