A Country Song
(for my wife’s birthday)
I’m no longer young and strong
and things take me twice as long
Might not hear you when you call
and I don’t stand quite so tall
Seasons change and so do we
as most any fool can see
Pride can blind us to the truth
Can’t hold on to faded youth
All the laughter and the tears
brought us closer through the years
Right up to my dying day
on my knees I’m gonna pray
That I’ll never be too old to
take you in my arms and hold you
Harsh Reality?
History has turned the page
and ushered in the Darkest Age
illumined by the smartest phones
held in the hands of mindless drones.

Beautiful! Hearts never age.
Beautiful sentiment! I couldn’t agree with you more!
Joe –
Congratulations to both your wife on her birthday and to you for the poem!
Things are still humming here.
Thank you! Let’s touch base for an update.
Mr Tessitore, I especially like the second poem (Harsh Reality?) with its compelling brevity and telling verdict.
Thank you so much!
I wasn’t even going to submit it but my wife convinced me otherwise.
Both the poems are lovely! The first for its rich emotional speak and the second for its hard-hitting statement.
Thank you Ram. I’m very grateful for your comments.
Hello Joe Sir,
I have always found your poetry to be honest and straightforward.
These are so lovely indeed.
Best wishes & Regards
